Fat Joe Thinks Daddy Yankee’s Endorsement Of John McCain Makes Him A “Sell Out”

Fat Joe took a short break from researching alternative fuel sources / leaning back to comment on Daddy Yankee’s decision to endorse Republican candidate John McCain:

“Put this in the MTV News headline: ‘Fat Joe Says Daddy Yankee Is a Sellout.’”

Audacious! Why you hating, Fat Joe?:

“The reason why I called him a sellout is because I feel he did that for a [publicity] look, rather than the issues that are affecting his people that look up to him. How could you want John McCain in office when George Bush and the Republicans already have half a million people losing their homes in foreclosure? We’re fighting an unjust war. It’s the Latinos and black kids up in the frontlines, fighting that war. [...] I feel real disgusted that Daddy Yankee would do that. Either he did that for a look, or he’s just not educated on politics.”

Latinos and blacks? Wait… do you mean poor Latinos and (slash or) blacks?

“Like I said, with me, my whole philosophy on blacks and Latinos is: We’re all one,” he said. “We’re in the same ghettos, same inner cities, and we’re suffering from the same problems. Every problem the blacks have, the Latinos have.”

Yeah. Look, gordi, we know you’re frustrated and your heart is in the right place. But not every black and/or Latino person lives in a ghetto. Or urban setting. A lot live in rural areas. A lot live in suburbs. Some think abortion is murder. Some think the war is murder. Some are concerned with affordable health care, others with tax cuts. It’s just as damaging to pain a picture of all minorities as these impoverished, inner city people who listen to hip hop as it is to endorse a candidate because it might put your name in papers (or, um, on a blog). Because issues are complicated. And so are people. To make an issue that could be considered one of economic class a racial issue is to tread in some pretty problematic territory.

If there’s anything we wish we could say to both Daddy Yankee and Fat Joe, it’s this: We elect politicians to represent us. We don’t ever remember casting a vote allowing any celebrity to speak for us. Speak for yourselves, both of you.

Couldn’t have said it any better myself. If we got to choose the celebrities who represent our culture as a whole, it sure as hell wouldn’t be Daddy Yankee OR Fat Joe.

Guerreo - Big Pun is the one that died. Fat Joe was the less talented friend who rode his death to stardom.

Seriously, who gives a crap what Daddy Yankee or Fat Joe think? I am willing to bet money that 99% of the people that “look up” to them, and I use the term loosely here, will even care enough to vote.

And more importantly….why is no one calling Oprah a sell out for endorsing Obama? :-)
