LANDSHARK!: Sharks With Legs Will Haunt Your Dreams

A woman in Malaysia bought a shark to make into a delicious sharksicle, only to discover that it has hideous pink webbed feet that could very well walk all over your face while you sleep, making grotesque little sucking sounds. Guacala:

The woman in the photo, Looi, wanted to cook some fish for lunch and bought this shark with that end in mind. It wasn’t until she got the shark home that she discovered the feet. She posed for the photo, then called her husband, unsure what to do next. They agreed that she should return the shark, since, according to Chinese belief, it is bad luck to eat fish with any unusual characteristics. She returned it to the fisherman who had caught it, who then promptly returned to the sea.

It should be pointed out that an argument could be made that the long appendages aren’t feet at all, but male shark “claspers,” used for holding onto a female during underwater sexy times or to hug your face while you sleep. Either way, GET THEM AWAY. Oh, and, whatever you do? Don’t answer that door… (Yeah, we had to). Take a bite out of knowledge, after the jump:

According to Professor Zulfigar Yasin, head of University Sains Malaysia’s Muka Head marine research station, said there’s a possibility the shark could have swum in from foreign waters:

“There is a possibility that the fish could have swum from other waters into Malaysian waters.”

“As far as I am concerned, fish species with legs or bony fins can only be discovered in the waters of North Sulawesi in Indonesia or South Africa,” he said.

There was a shark discovered a few years back that seemed to walk on its fins. Like some kind of freak:

Scientists combing through undersea fauna off Indonesia’s Papua province said they had discovered dozens of new species, including a shark that walks on its fins and a shrimp that looks like a praying mantis.

Whatever kind of shark this happens to be is never actually named, but we’ll go ahead and do the honors:
