Saturday night was the third annual “Noche En Blanco” a celebration of arts and culture that kept the city of Madrid lit up until seven in the morning. So, an average Saturday night for those people. This past weekend, though, institutions that would normally be closed, like the Museo del Prado created very cool light installations like the one in the above video, (shot at the 2006 event), and public transportation was running and free of charge.
The big event of the evening was a “vast spectacle” based on the soundtracks of Pedro Almodovar’s movies held at the Matadero Madrid exhibition space which drew 15,000 people including the director himself. And the entire city was littered with art like this. In all, there were 170 installations, but one spokesperson interviewed by El Pais said, despite the larger crowds, “it was much quieter than a normal Saturday night.”
