Some Ladypeople Are Boycotting Oprah For Not Having Sarah Palin On Her Show
15 September 2008, 7:00 PM. By Daniel Mauser
A Republican ladywomanperson’s group, the Florida Federation of Republican Women, is organizing a boycott against The! Oprah! Shooowwww! because they’re upset that she won’t feature Sarah Palin before the elections. All four people who remember who Joe Biden are equally upset, probably:
[T]he 58-year-old federation, which has 4,500 members, says Winfrey should have Palin on her show now, given how important the Alaska governor’s run is for women.
“She is an icon, and set her herself up to be such a women’s rights and women’s issues person. To have the first vice president of our lifetime on the Republican ticket being a woman and to sit it out regardless of what her personal political beliefs were was disingenuous, we felt,” the group’s First Vice President Cindy Graves told “FOX & Friends” on Wednesday morning.
The reasons why Palin’s running is important to women is definitely a point of contention, but one of the more immediate questions surrounding this is whether Oprah is required to believe that just because an issue happens to pertain to some women, that it should be deemed appropriate to feature on her show.
We’ve previously covered one take on this debate — the Oprah’s personal endorsement of Barack Obama is keeping her from inviting his opponents on her program — but we want to know what you think about the argument that Oprah should interview Sarah Palin simply because she in possession of a fabulous, bespectacled (puntastic) pair of fallopian tubes.

What a waste of time. If these women put as much effort into reading up on what their candidate of choice stands for policywise, then they wouldn’t have all this time to boycott.
Whats really terrible that it seems no women are thinking of is this-
1. If McCain doesn’t win the election then Palin will be blamed and the next woman is gonna be hard up.
2. If he does win and things go terribly, either thru the administration or McCain dies and palin takes over and does a crap ass job(,which she will)women will have a hard way to go next time around.
I swear this Oprah thing is the least of their worries. Ah well if they have what they want Palin will be VP and the next presdential race will see women not voting cause palin was ok with that too.
No of course. It’s not called the “All Issues or Public Figures Relevant to Women Show” - it’s the OPRAH WINFREY SHOW. Oprah covers topics & issues that SHE considers to be relevant for women or society at large or that SHE simply finds to be near & dear to her heart. She has NO obligation to give Sarah Palin a media platform from which to spread hypocritical GOP messages. In fact, because many Americans are woefully uninformed on electoral issues & tend to vote based in large part on emotional appeals, Oprah is doing the women of America a huge favor by not allowing Sarah Palin to spin her “folksy, down-home charm” that is preventing many from digging deeper into her murky record as a politician & from her glaring lack of qualifications.
Being a woman only in the sense that sometimes I put out for men (if they’re cute), I thnk Oprah shouldn’t let herself be bullied by that Florida Ladies group any more than she should give equal time to homophobes because she had Ellen on her show once.
I’m tired of the Judgmental Moron collective of this country demanding equal time. Obama doesn’t freak them out cuz he’s black; he freaks them out cuz he’s smarter than they are. How alarming it would be to have someone smarter than us running the country.
Exactly. The idea that Oprah should have Palin on her show because Palin’s a woman sickens me.
Well since it’s it’s Oprahs show she can invite anyone she sees fit. On the other hand… Oprah has opened her doors and brought politics on her show but just the politics she likes so I’m not putting much faith into anything she says anyway. Kind of like the Book Club of hers “Oprah read it, so it’s good!” Anyone who cannot show both sides of a story doesn’t have my respect. Palin is not running for President so why not invite McCain? Just because she is a woman running for vp doesn’t mean she automatically needs to be on the show. And yes, I know Palin doesn’t represent what every woman in America stands for and certainly not myself but it’s fun to watch politicians squirm.
-Saying that by not having Palin on the show prevents her from spreading her folksy charm or whatever is wee bit paranoid. It’s also advocating censorship. If she is this all powerful “folksy, down-home charm” type person as some people think then let them see for themselves. Let them think for themselves.
And finally in my personal opinion if you are watching Oprah for political news and take everything she says as the gospel, you’re following the flock. If you watch any show for that matter and accept the material at face value then you’re following the flock.
“She is an icon, and set her herself up to be such a women’s rights and women’s issues person. ”
Palin is an icon for women’s rights, right along Kim Kar-dash-ian and Brittney.
At least in my mind. Anyway, maybe she just doesn’t want to answer the question on whether she was chosen because she was qualified or because Hillary WASN’T on the Democrat side.
meh. Wheres my morning margarita…
….
Aaaahhh. sweet booze….
I find it funny that Oprah won’t put the Republican Head Cheerleader on her show. It’s even funnier that they are trying to bully their way onto the show. Boycotting Oprah is like drinking the swimming pool through a straw. It’s just too much for you.
Remember in the 90s when Oprah fought an all White group of cattle ranchers in a Texas courtroom? Everyone said she would drop in ratings because of it. They even said her “no more hamburgers” comment would cost her millions of dollars and viewers. And, well, we all see that it only made her an even more popular billionaire.
I’m sure Oprah would thank the Florida Federation of Republican Women for the all the free advertisement if she wasn’t so busy with actual issues like yesterday’s episode:
