Spanish Reporter Tramples Sandcastle, Reminds Us That We Are Mortal
26 September 2008, 5:35 PM. By Carlos Posas
God bless Paqui Peña for reminding us that there are more important things than the exploding economy and the fact that there is a presidential debate tonight. The perky, pigtailed reporter was recently caught during a taping of Spanish news digest Está Pasando accidentally destroying a giant prize-winning sandcastle, and her timing couldn’t be better. It’s not just the pure schadenfreude of watching her yelping shrilly as she topples sideways into the delicate masterpiece, or the painfully cheerful “don’t worry about it” attitude of the watching artist. No, it’s the underlying philosophical message that really matters to us.
Watch, grasshopper, and you too may understand:
This sandcastle took sixteen effing days to build, and all the artist says to her is, “it’s just sand!” We think he means to say that everything is transient-the tide will come in, the tide will go out, and we don’t know about you but we are feeling extremely soothed. At least, we are for the next few hours until the PRESIDENTIAL THUNDERDOME. WOOOOOOOO!
