Glaucoma Drug, Lumigan, Makes Lashes Grow Longer
27 October 2008, 12:00 PM. By Carlos Posas
Lumigan, a drug that treats Glaucoma, has an interesting side-effect that might interest the more beauty-conscious among us: It makes eyelashes nearly double their length. Oh, it’s a mod, mod world:
So convincing are the side-effects of Glaucoma treatment Lumigan that its maker plans to apply for a cosmetic licence in the U.S.
It means sales in Britain could start as early as next year - allowing Allergan to compete for a share of the £2billion spent on mascara each year worldwide.
In lab tests, patients who applied a gel-based solution made with the drug to one eye experienced a lash rate growth that was nearly double that of untreated lashes.
Says one woman, a doctor, who has used Lumigan drops for lash growth and now has eyes that are the envy of mangled spiders everywhere:
I am so busy with my children and my practice that I need to be in and out of the bathroom in 15 minutes in the morning, max. But I also want to look good, especially at work. After all, I have to be a role model for my patients,” she said.
Sounds kind of cool! We’ve recently stopped using mascara because we decided we didn’t much care about our lashes. Also we probably look the best we’re ever going to. The drops seem like a cool idea, though. Until they’re eventually found to give people eye cancer or something.
