Tito Munoz (No, the source article doesn’t use an ñ. Sit your asses down.) is a construction worker. Know how we know? He made a sign stating as such for John McCain’s visit to Connaughton Community Plaza in Woodbridge, Virginia this past Saturday. He was joined by “Phil the Brick-Layer” and “Rose the Teacher,” both of which are probably really “Agents Z3409 the CIA Operatives:”

Everybody was playing on the Joe-the-Plumber theme. McCain spent a lot of time on it in his stump speech, using the now-famous Joe Wurzelbacher of Toledo, Ohio, as a stand-in for “small businessmen and women all over America [who] want to keep their earnings and not give it to the government.” McCain added that Obama’s response to Wurzelbacher — the assertion that it would be best to “spread the wealth around” — made Joe the Plumber “the only person to get a real answer out of Sen. Obama.”

You mean Samuel Wurzelbacher, the unlicensed plumber? Jesus fucking Christ, since when has “Larry the Cable Guy” been the mascot for American politics?

You know, we’re all for people of all social and economic strata voicing their opinions and demanding to be represented during an election. But we just can’t take the implication that plumbers and brick layers are somehow more American than, say, doctors or lawyers. Or bloggers. The idea that “Joe the Plumber” is more of a “real guy” than someone with a doctorate is harmful and acts along the same lines of both parties acting horrified by suggestions that Barack Obama might be Muslim. It’s untrue, yeah, but it’s not horrific or offensive, nor would it have made him less patriotic or American. It’s not only football-playing, Christian, steak-and-potatoes-eating laborers with male pattern baldness and high cholesterol that have a stake in America’s future.
