California On Fire Thanks To Santa Ana Winds On Unrelated Columbus Day

socalfire.jpg

While the local news is going crazy with coverage of today’s Southern California blaze that has, so far, incinerated more than 3700 acres, claimed the life of a homeless man and his dog (sad!) and caused a mandatory evacuation for many in the area, the story has barely warranted a mention on CNN’s television broadcast. Meanwhile the Los Angeles Times has something they call their “fire package” of stories, pix and maps. (Stay classy, LA Times.) Over on the other end of the state, firefighters warn that a fire burning on Angel Island, a state park in the San Francisco Bay, may take up to four days to contain.

So, we’d just like to take this opportunity to point out what no one else is saying here: the unofficial capital of Aztlan is on fire thanks to some winds bearing the same name as a notoriously anti-Imperialist Mexican general on a day that celebrates the beginning of the end for indigenous peoples on this continent. Are you there, God? It’s me, Margarita. Video footage of both fires below.
