Lt. Michael Pigott, the police officer who delivered the order to Tase emotionally disturbed Bed-Stuy resident Iman Morales — a decision that resulted in Morales falling ten feet to his death — has committed suicide on his 46th birthday:
In his suicide note, Emergency Service Unit Lt. Michael Pigott said he put a bullet into his head over fears that his three children would see him in handcuffs or behind bars, the sources said.
The note, which included pictures of Pigott’s wife and children, was left in the locker room at Emergency Service Unit headquarters in Brooklyn. Apparently, Pigott was repeatedly taunted by one of his ESU superiors with threats of being jailed.
Although he had the day off, Pigott had arrived at headquaters around 4 AM this morning (Thursday), clipped the lock off a fellow officer’s locker, removed his gun and fired it into his head. One of Iman Morales’ family members extended her condolences:
About 20 of Morales’ relatives, including his distraught mother, turned out in a Greenwich Village church Thursday for the slain man’s funeral.
His aunt, Ann DeJesus Negron, was upset by the lieutenant’s death.
“This is not something we wanted anyone else to go through,” she said after the funeral. “This really disturbs the whole family.”
The Morales family is currently suing the city of New York and the NYPD.

Oh, this story is so sad from front to back, from Iman not being able to get the help he needed right down to this cops wrongheaded decision and his suicide. It seems like so much went so wrong in so many places…

Wow who would’ve thought it could come to this? I just don’t see the rationalization that suicide would be the better alternative. Now his wife and kids have to see him buried and thats just awful. This is terrible for both families.
On a sidenote: Cops really need to start trying to guage when they should use a taser. They are pulling them out way too often.

Yeah it makes more sense for your wife and kids to see you in a body bag than in handcuffs——obviously this man’s judgement towards others lives and his own was seriously impaired!

Goodness…may his wife and children be able to find peace somehow. He might have made a mistake but that’s no reason to make your loved ones suffer.
On another note, if this is true…
Apparently, Pigott was repeatedly being taunted by one of his ESU superiors with threats of being jailed.
The ‘superior’ should be dismissed and prosecuted. There’s got to be laws about harrassment within the force.
How awful!
