Not A Good Week To Be Barack Obama: Dead Bears & Sick Grandmas Lead To Concern

We don’t envy Senator Obama this week, at all. First, the body of a 75-pound dead bear cub plastered with Obama campaign signs was left at the entrance to Western Carolina University. A local businessperson is offering a reward to anyone who can find the Bear Killer And Sign Putter-Oner:

Linn Beachem, owner of Beachem Carpet & Tile Care, said his $500 reward is not about the potential political message behind the incident. Instead, he is motivated by the act of someone killing and them dumping a bear on campus.

“I don’t want to make it about politics,” he said this morning. “It is just a despicable act.”

Despicable indeed. And scary. And also: Stupid.

What sort of message does this send, really? “People who are against Barack Obama are stupid rednecks with little to no critical thinking skills, ability to articulate their beliefs, sense of human decency or respect for life?” Because that’s kind of the only message we get from this. Curiously, a pair of eyeglasses and a Turbie Twist were the only clues found at the scene. In other news, Barack Obama’s grandmother has broken her hip, and he’s canceled campaign stops later this week to be with her:

Madelyn Payne Dunham, who helped to raise Obama, “has not been well for a long time. Then she fell and broke her hip fairly recently,” Charles Payne said in a telephone interview from his home in Chicago. “She’s unhappy with the condition that she’s in, I can tell you that.”

Payne, who is Obama’s great-uncle, said his sister was hospitalized briefly but is back home in her Honolulu apartment, where Obama’s sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng, cares for her. Obama plans to suspend campaigning later this week to visit his grandmother, and Payne is planning to fly there for her 86th birthday, which is Sunday.
