Online Polls Show Latinos Exist, Don’t Care If Barack Obama Sits Down With Hugo Chavez
16 October 2008, 5:15 PM. By Alex Alvarez
To celebrate the fact that Barack Obama an John McCain talked about some vaguely Latinoesque issues during the final presidential debate, AOL Latino and TuVotoEsToFuturo put together some polls asking the public for their opinions on certain topics. Which is always a disastrous idea. Never ask people what they want, because they might tell you:
If Obama is elected, do you think it would be OK for him to meet in-person with President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela?
Yes, why not? 54%
No way 40%
Don’t know 6%
We vote no. The should not meet in-person. They should absolutely only contact one another via LiveJournal.
Does the U.S. need to sign a Free Trade Agreement with Colombia?
Yes 65%
No 22%
Don’t Know 13%
Yes. Wait. Will that make it cheaper to snort lines off 12-year-old boys? Not that we do that.
Would Obama need to maintain the NAFTA agreement?
Yes of course 69 %
I don’t know 16 %
No, ditch NAFTA 15%
No. He should maintain NAMBLA instead.
Now, a query. Do you suppose most people participating in these polls know what NAFTA is? Do you think they can explain what a Free Trade Agreement happens to be? Do they have a loving pet name for Hugo Chavez, like we do? Guys, come on. We read people’s comments on the Vanessa Hudgens / Bobby Bones post. We know the kind of “elemento” we’re dealing with. Come on. Seriously.
Anyguey. How would YOU vote for each question? Let us know in the comments!
