Political Mastermind Daddy Yankee Moderates Debate In Puerto Rico

Daddy Yankee, recipient of Harvard’s illustrious “Latino of the Year” joke award and stalwart supporter of Presidential candidate John McCain, moderated a debate among candidates vying to be Puerto Rico’s next governor. And he didn’t fuck it all up by having back-up dancers dressed like the candidates gyrate on the hood of an Escalade!:

La oreja reported that “Daddy was a good moderator, once again,” during the second debate, where the actual governor of Puerto Rico, Aníbal Acevedo Vilá and the other candidates, Luis Fortuño, Edwin Irizarry Mora and Rogelio Figueroa, answered the questions of various young adults that were presented by the 31-year-old singer during the event Vota o quédate calla’o (Vote or Shut Up).

Is that a trick question? Because we vote for “Shut up.”

“Ramón Ayala, who often goes by the name Daddy Yankee, showed a great deal of tact and experience when moderating the candidates,” said Univision.

Experience? To close the debate, Daddy said , experiencedly:

“I have to speak from the heart. I ask God for the wisdom to pick the most qualified candidate for my generation, who will address the problem of drugs in poor neighborhoods.”

We find praying to God to help us pick a candidate usually doesn’t work as well as just getting shitfaced and sleeping through Election Day. But, then again, we’re not as experienced or politically savvy as Daddy Yankee. Or Fat Joe. Or P. Diddy. Or the cast of “Gossip Girl.”

Sorry, are we overreacting? Is it nice that celebrities and Daddy Yankee are getting involved in politics and acting out on their civic duty? Because we remain inclined to feel that the answer to that is “I don’t care.” Mostly because, at the same time that celebrities use their fame to draw attention to politics, that very fame draws people away from issues and back to the celebrities themselves.
