Bexar County probation officer Karla Escobar is currently under investigation by her department because of explicit photos of herself she has featured on a pornographic website. So far, Escobar has been put on administrative leave as the department decides whether or not to fire her. Except she’s also on maternity leave, so we’re not sure that amounts to much at the time being. The debate on whether or not to fire her is being painted as an “ethical issue,” according to Director William Fitzgerald:

“We have policies and I did check that out, regarding anything pornographic. But it’s for employees that are [currently] onboard here. I think it’s along the lines of anything unethical or immoral.”

Escobar has reportedly tried to have her pictures removed from the site, but, as she no longer has rights to the images, they’ve stayed up. Which is exactly why we never ended up becoming a Suicide Girl when we were jobless post-college.

Escobar evidently told her bosses about the website when she was initially hired although they apparently did not see it fit to act on the news until recently. It’s interesting that the head of the department seems to be hearing this bit of news for the first time.

Do ethics really matter when it comes to the workplace, though? As long as someone is a good worker, as Escobar’s superiors have admitted her to be, and gets their job done efficiently, why is there a need to assign moral or ethical values to what they elect to do outside of work or before taking on a job? Or are employees obligated to be representatives of their work positions at all times?

We’d like to know what you think: Is it fair to fire Karla Escobar because she has nude pictures on the internet? Take our poll and let us know…

So let me get this straight. She was fired because of her porn history, and she would probably have a hard time finding a job. She is pregnant almost due to have a baby, more than likely she is single and not married. So …no job…no support ..new kid..here comes the tax payers to support her and her child…what a f….ed up system…

Were the photos found on reformedcholitaskanks.com?
In all honestly, I feel bad for her. It is something she did before she was employed there and has no control over the site now. What is the point of firing her?

Give me a break, she’s a probation officer not a freakin choir girl. I don’t see how any of this affects her ability to do her job. Obviously she made a mistake she regrets in her past but it’s disgusting to see these self-righteous news reporters barging into her office and harassing her on the phone just for the sake of ratings. Even her boss said she was a good worker but these reporters gave him no choice but to fire her. Shouldn’t we be applauding this woman for turning her life around and trying to earn an honest living? To Mireya Villarreal: you ruined a woman’s life for your 15 minutes of fame, hope you can still sleep at night.

Clergy, judges, teachers and law enforcement (which includes probation officers) are held to a higher standard of conduct, as they should be. They are supposed to be examples for the rest of us to follow. They should command respect. It is impossible for many people to respect a woman who exposed her naked body for all to see for profit. I have no sympathy for this woman - zero, zip, nada.

Take some nude photos, get paid, keep your house out of foreclosure, feed your children, make you car payment. Your respect isn’t paying my bills.

That’s fine if respect, self or otherwise, isn’t important to a person. However, it is important to the position of law enforcement officer. Choose a different career field. Don’t have children you can’t feed. Don’t live in a home beyond your means.

I believe many of you are judging without knowing the circumstances that Karla was under when she took these pictures. Its not fair to judge her. She did right by disclosing this to her boss and the foks at the station who covered the story should have known better. Now William Fitzgerald the man in charge of deciding Karla’s fate is in a predicament. I spoke with him earlier today and you can tell he was between the sword and the wall. Any of you condemning this woman without thinking that it could possibly happen to you or one of your loved ones should think twice.

A few people here have questioned her viability as a role model…and well who better than Karla to role model completely changing your life. By all accounts Karla is a good employee who also embodies the transformation that society expects from her clients. Personally, I wonder how much her gender plays a role in her media persecution?

The bottom line is that Karla disclosed the nude photos to her employer there by relieving herself from conflict with department policy.

Karla, because this case is public it is best for you to retain independent counsel (employment law specialist).

OK, I just saw the video!

Karla, you have to stop talking with the media and let an attorney take over!

Things happen, no one on here or anywhere else has the right to judge you.

Lots of luck with your case.

You’re right…I just saw the video and she DOES need to stop talking to the media and start talking to some XXX movie producers. She’ll make more $$ in a year than a lifetime as a PO.
