Video: Latinos, Please Vote And Save Jane Fonda’s Career

We love voting. We would do it all night long with both hands if it were legal in our state. And we love Voto Latino for getting the word out about voting to young Latinos. But the star studded, fifth episode of their mock novela PSA sort of left us speechless because besides featuring the usual players–Wilmer Valderrama & Rosario Dawson– it also has an appearance by Jane fucking Fonda. Yes, you read that right. Hanoi Jane wants you to vote. That’s how bad the situation is with Latino apathy, people. They had to drag legendary, Oscar winner Jane Fonda to a production even more painful than Monster-in-Law just to get your attention. Of course, she does have the best line in the video. Also, Perez Hilton plays a priest and there’s a cameo of Vida Guerra and her ass. You can see the whole thing after the jump. But please. Vote on November 4th so that this sort of thing never has to happen again.

Oooh this is just bad…writing, acting, music, etc. Replete with all the standard Latino stereotypes; hyper sexual peoples, thick accents no one posses, tacky galore, the spontaneous dancing, an ever present Latin soundtrack that is activated when ever Latinos walk in front of camera, etc.
And worst the heavy hand was so heavy that I wonder how much of the message/info really got across. I tried to watch it twice, to catch the facts, but I just had to turn this sh*t off that second time around.
Given Rosario’s articulation of her multifaceted Latino experience in your previous article, I wonder why resort to all these poorly executed cliches?
I’m voting because it is essential that we all participate in the electoral process. I’m also voting because in California we have an initiative known as (Prop 8) that would eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry. This is a civil rights issue and I just don’t know how the rights of an entire community are up for debate. I am also very concerned about Prop 4, the abortion waiting period and parental notification for teens. Teens in these circumstances don’t need more pressure or to be even further stigmatized for what could be the rest of their lives within their families.
I think they are trying to spoof telenovelas in the way that Viva Hollywood tried, but like Viva Hollywood, the writing failed. It wasn’t funny. And maybe this a lesson learned? It’s nearly impossible to spoof that which is already ludicrous? I mean, look at that movie Soap Dish. It sucked, too.
