God bless Karl Lagerfed. He brought out his special brand of jaded nonchalance to a party celebrating Pritzker Prize-winning architect Zaha Hadid’s traveling pavilion, which houses art inspired by Chanel. Among the guests at the event were French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld, looking lovely and tan and emaciated, and designer Zac Posen, looking lovely and tan.

One artist drew inspiration from Chanel mannequins, covering them in leather and photographing them. Uncle Karl, however, was unimpressed, saying that gallery space would look better were it not so “cramped” and cluttered with artwork.

The exact quote, should you feel like quoting it over and over:

“Nothing against the artwork, I’m not sure it was really conceived for that place. More for normal galleries; they’re not good for each other. Too cramped.”

Zaha Hadid’s pavilion will be open in New York from October 24th to November 9th and admission is free if you reserve in advance at the on-site ticket booth. From there, it will travel to London, Moscow and Paris.

The nautilus-like space also features a “bleepity boop” soundtrack, with beeps, electronic sounds and the voice of French actress Jeanne Moreau as a tour guide. In a half-whisper, she imparts such insights as: “I always prefer the reflection of things to the things themselves.”

Ah, fashion.
