ABC Fired Sara Ramirez’s On-Screen Girlfriend From Grey’s Anatomy, Possibly For Not Being Hot Enough

News dropped late yesterday that Grey’s Anatomy–the show that commits more medical malpractices an hour than a Mexican hospital–will be wrapping up the lesbian storyline between Dr. Callie Torres, played by Sarah Ramirez and Dr. Erica Hahn, played by Brooke Smith stating a lack of “magic” and “chemistry” between the characters. Plus! They are firing Smith. According to Entertainment Weekly this was not a decision made by executive producer Shonda Rhimes, but rather a mandate handed down from the brass at ABC who felt the storyline had gotten a tad too vaginal with last week’s episode being all about Callie’s fear of going “south of the border.” All of which has led at least one television critic to speculate about what sinister reasons might lie beneath the lack of boners around the ABC offices. Los Angeles Times critic Mary McNamara explains after the jump.
[...] they were, how shall we say, average size. With hips, you know, and actual breasts. Not two girly waifs exchanging a stolen kiss or a grope in the women’s room stall over a line of coke, not an androgynous club kid putting her best moves on some sitcom heroine. But two women of substance, physically and psychologically, falling in love and talking about it way too much, the way women tend to do.
The network’s sudden announcement does beg the question of why Smith has to leave the show just because she and Ramirez will no longer be bumping clams. We mean, McSteamy (Dr. Mark Sloan played by Eric Dane) hasn’t been steady with anyone since he joined the show two seasons ago, but he gets to stay. What do you guys think?

I’m not lesbo or anything, but yeah i thought I thought that Callie was too pretty para la enojona de Erica
You’d be an enojona too if you had to deal with la bola de locos ABC has show up on that show every week.
she looks so much like monica belucci from this angle…
What a surprise that they fire one of the least annoying actors on that show—it is brutal, brutal to endure the dialogue that is written for that show. I look forward to the episode where toxic fumes engulf the hospital staff rendering them all unable to speak until they gasp their last breath so the show that jumped the shark after season 1 frees up some primetime on Thursday by its cancellation. VOTE OBAMA
I’m upset about this. I really like the Dr. Hahn character — I loved that she was in control and a strong woman and successfull, wtf?!
And the lesbian storyline was one of my favorites in the show. The clumsiness made it seem very genuine and was a good break from the boy crazy crap from the other characters. Arg.
I have never been able to sit through one episode of Grey’s Anatomy or Desperate Housewives. The neurotic melodrama with whiny, unbalanced characters is annoying. And I get plenty of that watching anything on MTV for 10 minutes.
