Ashley Dupre Would Like To Remind You That She Is Famous, Does It All For The Music

Remember Ashley Dupre, the pop star? Of course you don’t, because Ashley Dupre is famous not for her musical abilities, but for being Eliot Spitzers call girl. Yet she is determined to transform her 15 minutes of fame for being a hooker into lasting fame, for being annoying a singer. W magazine writer Emily Holt reports that Ashley’s publicist called recently, wanting to discuss what Ashley was up to.

“The publicist told us that Dupre is working on a lot of projects that she thought would interest W readers.”

An album and a reality show were mentioned before the publicist demanded a non-disclosure agreement, which W refused. Last time we checked, W was a glossy 50 pound fashion magazine, not a music and TV guide, but whatever, maybe Ashley is trying to lend her image a little class.

She writes on her MySpace page that it’s always been about the music for her (insert joke about hummers) and that music was the inspiration for her move to New York.
“I am here, in NY because of my music. It started when I moved in with a musician during my odyssey to New York. One day, I was in the shower singing “respect.” He and his lead guitarist burst in, had me repeat it and it started.”

Just like how we got our break in blogging- in the shower!…Oh god, so many awkward directions we could take that joke. But Ashley is pretty serious about wanting to be a singer, and she’s already released one track, “What We Want,” which she describes as;

“…Really about trust, something my past has made very difficult for me to feel. This one was inspired by a guy, who taught me not to confuse my dreams with the sounds of the city.”

Since her dreams are like the sounds of a city, we expected the song to have a lot more screaming and ambulance sirens, but disappointingly, it’s more like a rejected Kylie Minogue B-side. Listen for yourself on her MySpace page, and tell us what you think - has this chick earned herself some artistic respect, or is she clinging a little too hard to her 15 minutes?
