“The “American Humanist Association” has put $40,000 into a holiday bus campaign promoting atheism in Washington, DC. The advertisement reads: “Why believe in a god? Just be good for goodness’ sake.”
The line is from a much longer original promo: “No one sees you when you’re sleeping. No one knows when you’re awake. No one cares if you’ve been bad or good” and you get the idea.
The point of the campaign is to make non-theists feel a little less lonely during the magical, Christian, and (in some years) Judaic holiday month of December. No word on how a multicultural tradition of a gift-giving old man has to be inherently tied with Jesus. An unsympathetic representative from the American Family Association responded to the campaign:
“It’s a stupid ad.”
You know. Jesus gave Aristotle a similar reply.

can we still get presents, though?

We are picking out a nice aluminum pole to set up in the middle of the living room, just so we won’t feel out of place.
We’ve got two atheists and one ex-Jehova’s Witness in the house and we don’t celebrate a damn thing, and we make it a point to not buy anything for anyone.
We sing x-mas carols about some dude named Je-zuz’s nutz roasting over an open fire and things of that sort…
Then again, the holiday is not without its usefulness, is it true that if teh Bebeh Jezuz sees it shadow its ten more weeks of winter?
