Fashion Designer Armando Mafud Creates Clothing For Frida In Wonderland
3 November 2008, 10:30 AM. By Carlos Posas
Mexican-born fashion designer Armando Mafud debuted his 2009 Spring collection last week as part of Mexico’s fashion week. His pieces immediately made us think of what Frida Kahlo might have worn had she taken a tumble down a rabbit hole. Mostly because his sartorial take on “Mexican” is so literal that his pieces tend to look costumey.
And also because, hey, it’s fun to think about what a Mexican version of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland dipped in magical realism might look like. Mafud’s use of psychedelic colors, flowers and prints make his clothing a perfect fit for the beloved children’s tale.
So join us, if you will, as we attempt to pair designs from Mafud’s Spring collection to some of our favorite characters from Wonderland and through the looking glass:
Alice
The White Rabbit
The Queen of Hearts
The Cheshire Cat
The Mad Hatter
The March Hare
The Hookah-Smoking Caterpillar
The Flowers
The White Queen
Tweedledee
Tweedledum
