Last night’s win for Presidential Elect Barack Obama was historic for so many reasons, it’s hard to count them all here, but among them is the first election we’ve ever seen in this country to spawn a love riot. Last night in the streets of New York, spontaneous parties were born in the intersections of major streets. Hugs and high fives between strangers were the order of the day. And random outbursts of elation, called and answered, carried on throughout the night. We walked around late into the night and felt it was, truly, the antithesis of another surreal day on this city’s streets: September 11, 2001. The very place so many of us gathered eight years ago to argue over whether or not we should go to war—Union Square—now hosted a dance party of white, black, brown, yellow, red, white and blue. It was more than a victory for a candidate. It was a victory for the human spirit of the American people. Pictures and video are after the jump.

I never thought that I would see something like this in my lifetime….I am so filled with hope, for us as Americans. God made us in many colors to celebreate the beauty in all the colors of creation, not to divide us. Last night I felt that we as an American people are ready to embrace our beautiful differences as well as the fact that we are all of the same race, the human race, and as Americans we will rise of fall together.
Peace

Dammit, now I’m crying again =) The first person I talked to after finding out was the checker at the grocery store. Another high five between strangers. So THIS is what hope for the future and faith in a politician feels like.

A month ago to date many celebrations took place and with good reason. I have never been prouder to be an American as I am today.
I never thought in my lifetime I would see a minority become president of the USA! Election day showed once and for all that with hard work and determination any American can aspire to become anything they put their mind to. Minorities as a whole should still be celebrating this mildstone achievement.
As young Americans we need to pull up our pants and aspire for greatness. President Elect Obama has proven that we can all do it if we want to. God bless Obama and God bless the USA.
Hardtimes are coming lets all stand up and be united.
