Puerto Rico’s “Al Borde Del Deseo” tells the story of women from various backgrounds and social classes all just trying to get by in this big, cruel world while wearing evening gowns during the day. The show, described as a “dramedy,” includes a subplot about a lesbian love affair between a married woman and mother of two whose husband is off fighting in Iraq and a police officer who teaches the lonely housewife how to “love differently.” Like in a rapid, scissoring motion, perhaps.
The mother, Cecilia, is played by Sully Diaz and the police officer is played by former body builder Nashali Enchautegui:
Just your average, everyday law enforcement officer, no? The promo for the novela shows the two women briefly engaging in what lesbians refer to as “picnicking” - an activity involving the use of a large blanket, assorted sandwiches and a glass or two of Sutter Home. See for yourself:
Can you think of any other Spanish-language shows involving a lesbian couple? Or, better yet, involving a lesbian couple engaged in something other than an illicit, adulterous affair?

I think is the first time Lesbian love is presented so openly. Al Borde del Deseo is an excellent proposal. The Lesbian theme is well developed and even better acted, very real and very dramatic as well as entertaining. I highly recommend it. The scope of women presented in the show is a big rainbow of characters with real needs and real stories.
