Hiroshi Nohara is a Japanese man who has allegedly been living in a Mexico City’s Benito Juarez International Airport airport since September. Beats living in a Mexican prison bathroom. He’s choosing to stay there because he deems the location a “safe place.” Interestingly, Googling his name leads one to an informative Wikipedia entry –in Spanish! — about a manga character.

He’s only ventured out of the airport twice, once to visit a motel (o rly?) and another time to visit Mexico City’s famous Estadio Azteca. Which means he’s probably managed to get a taste of pica fresas if you know what we’re sayin.’

Of course, we can’t help but read this story with a healthy dose of skepticism. Why hasn’t he been made to go home? Is the food court there really good? Does he not have to pay taxes on Toblerone or novelty tequila items? Obviously, we’re reminded of the Tom Hanks movie The Terminal, which was based on a true-ish story. And also happened to star our secret husband, Diego Luna. Let’s cuddle under a festive afghan throw from Pier 1 and listen to him talk about the movie, shall we? Like you have a choice:

Estadio Azteca is really far away from the airport, so he’s not that scared of getting lost in the city. And no, the food court sucks! It’s all American fast food and estarbucks and super expensive tortas locas.
