Video: More On “Santa Muerte” And Her Stylish Influence On DF’s Tepito Neighborhood
25 November 2008, 4:00 PM. By Alex Alvarez
We’ve recently covered Mexico’s revered “Santa Muerte” and the art her image and symbolism have inspired. Now we learn that one of the most visited shrines devoted to this figure happens to be in Tepito, a Mexico City neighborhood well known for its outdoor markets. Journalist with sexy glasses, Daniel Hernandez, traveled to Tepito to learn more about the Santa Muerte and the religious devotion she’s developed - most notably among criminals in Mexico. Watch how a marketplace teeming with locals is filmed not unlike groups of wildebeests wandering the Serengeti. We were especially impressed by gifts most often bestowed on this deathly figure as thanks and for protection: Cigarettes, fruit and tequila.
