We recently came to know and love porn director Erika Lust after her book, Porn For Women, was released in Spanish. The Swedish-born badass moved to Barcelona in 2000 and has established her business, Lust Films of Barcelona there.

Two of her most recent projects have got us all hot and bothered (hur). The first is the guide-to-porn, Porno para Mujeres. Erika is a self-described feminist (with a degree in political and feminist studies) and one of her driving questions is Can you be a feminist and still like porn? Seeing as she directs porns, the answer for her is obviously a resounding yes. She makes porn because she was fed up with male-perspective porn where, as she describes it,

1. Women wear high heels to bed.

2. Men are never impotent.

3. When going down on a woman 10 seconds is more than satisfactory.

Continued, with NSFW pix:

We’ve already grumbled about how the conventional porn industry seems to think women want to jerk off irresponsible surfer dudes all day long, but Erika puts it well when she says;

“I want to see women being women, women with emotions, education, professions, mothers, married women, divorced, singles…always enjoying their sexuality.”

If we had our way porn would be an hour of a woman getting her hair stroked while she cried softly into Vin Diesel’s chest hair and then maybe there’d be some oral sex. But this is why we are not a porn director…

Erika’s other project focuses specifically on six Barcelona residents- the tagline says it all:

“Six intimate portraits, six personal interviews and six real orgasms.”

Obviously we are extremely excited about this new director. But what do you think? Is the whole idea of porn just inherently degrading to both sexes? Does conventional porn do the trick for you, or would it be better for women to have porn specifically tailored to their desires?

    Mmm, porn—my favorite subject!

    Whether porn is degrading to both sexes is still an arguable topic. And there are women—here in the U.S. at least—who for at least 15 years have been making porn marketed specifically for women. I wish we could see more “feminist-and porn-friendly” women like Erika Lust, Nina Hartley, and Candida Royalle. I wish I can see more Latino women with Erika’s attitude about sex.

    I think porn has three goals for its audience: to get you to buy, to turn you on, and to just entertain. All the porn I have seen has been very entertaining, but it just doesn’t do it for me, and I don’t think it has to. So if it’s better to for women to have porn specifically tailored to their desires might be a good idea, but I don’t think it will stop people from thinking porn is degrading.

    I thought shows like Grey’s Anatomy were like porn for women? All build-up and few to no gaping pussies and cumshots.

    I read her book and I think it is absolutely fantastic, she explains very well how the industry works, and why we are in the situation we are in today. And she gives us clear suggestions of what to watch and where to find good porn for us. The book is coming out in English in 2010 with SEAL PRESS. I think it is gonna be a hit!
