Grinchy Scrooginess: Warren Buffett Disowned Granddaughter Nicole Buffett
18 December 2008, 3:45 PM. By Alex Alvarez
Nicole Buffett, granddaughter of bagillionaire Warren Buffett, reveals to Marie Claire magazine that she has been disowned by her grandpappy. Nicole is a 32-year-old abstract painter and textile-maker who was adopted at the age of four by Warren’s youngest son, Peter, when he married her mother. The two have since gotten divorced.
Nicole kissed her grandfather’s money good-bye when she spoke about her grandfather in The One Percent, a documentary on the offspring of the wealthy that played on Cinemax. Prestigious. Said Nicole:
“I definitely fear judgment. Money is the spoke in my grandfather’s wheel of life.”
Warren Buffett then got all sassy and “Oh, girl, no you did not just say that!” and promptly disowned her, saying:
“I have not emotionally or legally adopted you as a grandchild, nor have the rest of my family adopted you as a niece or a cousin.”
And you know what? Good for Warren Buffett. Because:
Now, Nicole lives on $40,000 a year from selling her own artworks and working in a boutique near her home in Berkeley, California. Reportedly, she cannot afford health insurance.
$40,000? Girl, come on. If you’re interested in seeing Nicole’s work, be sure to check out her site. Maybe help her out and buy something.

@LaLa: Ok LaLa, easy on the haterade today.
Am I supposed to feel bad because she lives on what I live on yearly? Boo Hoo.
I have to say his comment was pretty cold:
“I have not emotionally or legally adopted you as a grandchild, nor have the rest of my family adopted you as a niece or a cousin.”
I always thought he was pretty cool; now, I just don’t know.
Just because his son married a woman who had a kid by another man–and his *son* adopted that kid it doesn’t mean HE has to relate to her as a real granddaughter.
Some people with kids that marry into money have *really unrealistic* expectations when it comes to *their* offspring. Who don’t even come from that bloodline!
Yeah, because, you know, what’s important is really the money…
@lala: white people kind of make me angry all the time too..
and about the dreads.. she THINKS she can rock them because she lives in berkley.
it must have been the dreads.
Since she was adopted, he really doesn’t have to include her in his will. She should be thankful for the life she lived as a child. Not many of us are that lucky. She’s old enough now to get a job and make money. Aren’t we all required to do that?
If my adopted child said something negative in a public arena that reflected poorly on me, I would be hurt and and disappointed but I could not disown her as I could not disown my arm. Foolish of her to do so, but families always disagree, forgive, reconcile, rekindle love & move on to being a family again. Jeff (Kiwi down under)
