Thanks to an exceptionally nerdy expectant father named Corey Menscher, we now have the world's first Twitter-post from a fetus. The techie dad cobbled together a tummy-belt with sensors on it that would record motion from the baby's kicks and then send a tweet to the status-update site Twitter every time it happened. Our question: His wife agreed to this? We mean, look at it- it's hideous! It looks like one of those safety travel-pouches our mother made us wear to keep money and passports in, except this one somehow manages to look even lamer (perhaps due to the expanded width, and the wires dripping off it?). Corey explains how he came up with the idea:

As an expectant father, I am once-removed from the physical knowledge my wife has of our baby and its development. With the Kickbee, I wanted to create a device that would give me a chance to be aware of our baby's movements.Ok fine, we probably would have caved too if our husband was that adorably into our pregnancy- but we would have bedazzled the shit out of the belt before we'd be caught dead wearing it. Corey admits there are still some kinks to work out, since the sensors are too sensitive -- at one point they recorded 258 kicks at a time -- but otherwise he is proud of his work. Although he did get a bit pissy when someone suggested the equipment on the belt might harm the baby.
I’d also like to respond to some comments about “irradiating” my baby. The piezo sensors are simple sensors that generate a very small electrical current when tapped or vibrated. They are not powered in any way...I’ve spoken to faculty about this, and considering the very low wattage, it’s unlikely much of the electromagnetic radiation will reach the baby. No, it's more likely this baby will just come out supremely hooked in, already texting LOLs and ROFLCOPTERs to the fetuses he met in pre-natal classes.
