“Saturday Night Live” To Take Occasionally Funny Brand Of Sketch Comedy To Spain

Spain’s Globomedia has signed a deal to create a Spanish version of “Saturday Night Live.” For those of you have wisely avoided the series since the addition of such wastes of time like Andy Samberg and White Girl #3, SNL is a sketch comedy series airing Saturday nights that occasionally runs funny videos on the internet.
Fernando Jerez, programming director for Spanish broadcast network Cuatro had this to say:
“[It is] going to be pretty much like the original version, which is a basis we’re very happy with. The goal is to make it recognizable with a humor that Spanish audiences can understand.”
Spaniards have a sense of humor? The show is likely going to involve U.S. Latinos falling down in giant ladybug costumes while Spanish businessman continually check their watches. So who’ll be on the new series? Take a look:
The show will star popular TV comics Eva Hache (”Noche Hache”), Edu Soto (”Buenafuente”), Yolanda Ramos (”Homo Zapping”), Gorka Otxoa (”A Matter of Sex”) and Secun de la Rosa (”Aida”).
“Homo Zapping?” That definitely sounds like the sort of thing that would make, say, Jimmy Fallon break out into a giggling fit in the middle of a sketch.
No word yet on who will join the cast as the single token minority.

“Spaniards have a sense of humor?” was also my pregunta.
Anybody but me remember the variety comedy show that John Leguizamo had for about a minute? I thought it was funny and overdue, but it died, either from poor ratings or they could not figure out how to promote it…
I lived in Spain for a while. The funniest thing that ever happened there was Franco dying. Good times.
