The case surrounding the disappearance of Laura Garza has made it onto The Today Show. A missing person’s case that isn’t about a little white girl? How novel. Next thing you know, major news outlets will start reporting on missing Latinos and/or Black people on a regular basis.

Anyway. Angry / exhausted rant over. For now. Laura Garza’s aunt and mother back in her hometown of McAllen, Texas were briefly featured in the report, their sadness and sense of frustration palpable. Also interviewed was an employee of kidnapping suspect Michael Mele, who said she never would have imagined her boss — which the report continuously referred to as charming and handsome — would be capable of such a crime. Which begs the question, would there be such media attention given to this case if the people involved hadn’t been considered good looking? See for yourself, after the jump:

Who gives a shit if Mele is “charming” and “handsome”? Those two traits are subjective and they certainly don’t mean that he is incapable of doing harm.

I feel awful for Laura and her family. I hope they get good news soon.

the only reason this story made it to the Today’s show is that she looks italian. once they figure out she is a latina you won’t hear about it anymore.
