Video: Models Face Off Against Giant Bugs And Cranky Elephants In Botswana For Pirelli Calendar
1 December 2008, 9:00 AM. By Alex Alvarez
We’re under the impression that the annual Pirelli calendar — which features scantily-clad women in a variety of uncomfortable poses — is a thinly-veiled attempt by the Italian company to allow ugly people to enact merciless revenge on the beautiful.
This year’s calendar, for instance, features models Isabeli Fontana, Mariacarla Boscono, Malgosia Bela, Lara Stone, and Daria Werbowy posing alongside various gargantuan insects and arachnids — and with at least one temperamental elephant — on location in Botswana. Perhaps this will teach the professional mannequins and the editors, photographers and stylists who play a part in shooting them all safari-like to finally stop using foreign countries as backdrops for fashion shoots in which light-skinned women are dressed like “natives” in furry loincloths. yup, nothing like using a nation or culture as a background for a FAAAASHION! shoot.
Wow….don’t know what to say….I kinda wished the crew would get chased by the elephants or something. It’s kinda disgusting.
there’s something about exploiting fear that makes it extra sexy.
i think the idea was interesting cos it had little to do with fashion actually, but final result is mostly a failure. you should see the whole calendar at the pirelli.com though , cos there are actually 4-5 shots that are good. i especially recommend come of shots featuring daria.
