People all over the world are searching it online as the “Bush Shoe.” Today, President George Bush made an unannounced visit to Iraq. During a press conference, as part of a ceremonial signing of a security agreement, the President of the United States was greeted by a pair of flying shoes aggressively thrown at him, one after another, and insulted in Arabic by Iraqi journalist Muntazer al-Zaidi. Fortunately, the President managed to dodge the smelly pair of “number 10’s.”

In Arab culture, throwing shoes is a grave show of disrespect. “This is the farewell kiss, you dog,” the man shouted in Arabic.

After the jump, you can see a video of President Bush escaping the pair of shoes intended for his face. When asked about the incident President Bush claimed he believed the pair of shoes were a size 10.

Did Bush deserve this? As much as people hate him doesn’t it hurt to see this done to our president?

** That the shoes missed Mr.Bush. Atleast one man in this whole universe has the courage to denounce the acts of Mr.Bush in the public..

Knowing what Bush(s), the dad and son have done to this region, I’m not at all surprised someone has done this.

It’s sad, and genius as well, that a journalist from the country that the US liberated from the grip of a dictator have come to hate its leader so much that he would commit an act like this.

@Carnitas: Yeah, a dictator that George Bush senior was bff with. A dictator that they approved of until they decided they didn’t like him anymore.

The shoe seen ’round the world! How much do you think it’ll go for on ebay?

Imagine what would’ve happened had one of the shoes actually hit him! As much as I’d appreciate a little respect for the Prez, it’d also be pretty amazing to watch him topple over after a slap from some cheap loafers.

If it wasn’t for Bush this journalist would not have the freedom to throw a shoe. just think what would happen to him if he threw a shoe at Saddam. Do you think he would still be alive?

I think it is scary that the President of the United States — whoever he or she may be — would not be protected any better than it appears that President Bush was. I’m glad he was only throwing shoes.

    @ Mike,
If Bush gave him the freedom to throw the shoe then no one should have a problem with it being thrown… or its mate.

Personally I wish it had been something heavier, but in the Arab/Muslim world calling him a dog and showing him the soles of his shoes is pretty much the biggest thing he could have done.

Well this should not shock anyone really. President or not, he has no respect for anyone else or their country so why should anyone give him any?

The government should be afraid of its people.

It’s the most disrespectful incident that i have ever seen in my life. Imagine throwing a shoe on the president, some people don’t really know the meaning of the word “respect” for me even though you are angry to/with somebody you must give some respect. just imagine if you are in the presidents place and somebody throw a shoe on you what would you feel? embarrassed right? so if you want to gain respect from others you must know how to respect yourself first.

I don’t like President Bush or his foreign policy, but this is uncalled for. You don’t protest a war with violence of any sort, even if it is as small as a thrown shoe. If you want to blame someone for this war you should be looking at Cheney and Rumsfeld who stood to gain far more than Bush. This is a sad affair.

You are right—Bush will be missed by countless individuals suffering from low IQs, homophobes and bigots. Enjoy the next 4 years of misery as all of us “ass kissing liberals” enjoy the dawning of a new day and hopefully the speedy end of a war on “sandbags”. Since throwing a show is one of the worst Arab insults one can toss out, it seems fitting that our President got one aimed at his head, as I am sure most sovereign countries find it insulting to be attacked by the Grand Ole USA simply because our IQ challenged President had daddy issues and is in bed with big oil.

@Robert Yetter: This country was founded upon liberal values. Believe it. The fact that you would call the man who threw the shoe a “sandbag” speaks volumes of your mentatlity.

Some may not like the whole shoe throwing incident but it demonstrates just how far the United States has fallen out of the good graces with the rest of the world. Our citizens need to throw our collective shoe at our government at this point. But devisive politics and hate mongering, fear based policies have set us up to fall. That is the real travesty.

Hey, the reporter was just insulting the president, and by him, the American people. I guess I don’t like to be insulted. The Iraqui people have a free country now, one where protest -throwing a shoe- will not get you killed. And this is the thanks they give to America, to the parents of children who have died in Iraqui soil to protect their freedom. I am not amused…my neighbor’s child died in Iraqui soil. This offends me greatly. When you gloat about this, please think of the parents of children serving in Iraq. Please.

First of all, props to W for his cat-like reflexes to duck out of the way of the first zapato. He even busted out his trademark smirk after it went by. I was impressed. Second, I agree with la roncha. Where was the SS? We’re just lucky that wasn’t Random Tasks from Austin Powers throwing that shoe.

When I first saw this on the news I thought it was a bit much (even though the guy did shout something like, “This is for the widows and orphans”, so I could see his point), but then they showed an interview with Bush that happened right after and he goes: “What’s his beef?”

And then the reporter pointed out to him that Al-Qaeda set up groups in Iraq only AFTER U.S. invasion, and he said, “So?”

That’s when I wished the shoe had hit him square in his stupid face.
