Aretha Franklin’s Inaugural Hat: Oh Yes She Did
20 January 2009, 4:53 PM. By Cindy Casares
Without a doubt, our favorite moment today, besides the whole first black American president thing, was Aretha Franklin and Aretha Franklin’s hat performing, “My Country ‘Tis Of Thee,” at the inauguration. First of all, it’s Aretha Franklin. Or as we like to call her, Urethra Franklin. And she’s got more woman in one little toe than all the gays on the internet dancing to Beyonce at the exact same time. Secondly, she wore her best Sunday-Go-To-Meeting hat for the occasion and when she crooned the prophetic words of Samuel Francis Smith, “Let freedom ring,” it felt like a whole lot of black souls were up on that White House lawn looking down on this auspicious occasion. And didn’t President (elect, at that time) Obama look like it was all he could do to keep from throwing his palms up in the air and singing amen? Unlike during some more forced performances this weekend, the schmaltz of this one was well served. Video is below.

Urethra Franklin sounds like a special guest star on La Vida Chocha.
That is brilliance just coming out of your brain.
The similarities of this scene to the “She’s Your Queen to Be” scene of the movie “Coming to America” are too striking to ignore. I think we need a video comparison posted for general debate.
So who gets to hit the pinata first?
The hat was fierce and electrifying. I loved it.
*sigh* Bedazzled items really complete an outfit.
Loved the hat! Only Aretha can get away with something like that!

I thought she and her hat were adorable. Like my mother. Who is black at heart…and says my real daddy is Denzel Washington…to the dismay of my hard-working (Mexican) father..
My cunt-tryyyyy….
. . . tits of thee . . .
