An Austrian theater is planning to stage a play based on the case surrounding Josef Fritzl, the Austrian man who kept his daughter and their children together locked away in a basement during years of sexual and physical abuse.
Fritzl kept his daughter captive for 24 years, raping her repeatedly and fathering her seven children, some of whom never saw natural light until their release.
The show, which is set to open February 23rd (Marquéalo!) at the 3raum-anatomietheater in Vienna, will be called "Pension Fritzl," German for "Fritzl's Bed and Breakfast." It is being directed by Austrian comedian Hubsi Kramer and is being described as a "satiric opera." Kramer made headlines (in Vienna, because who cares) for attempting to attend the prestigious Vienna Opera Ball dressed as Adolf Hitler.
Please please please tell us they cast Donald Sutherland as Fritzl and that Dakota Fanning plays absolutely everyone else.
We'll admit to being terribly curious to see what the show is like, although the premise - and Kramer's previous antics - have us believing it would probably be poorly executed and awkward rather than a funny and thought-provoking piece of social satire. Would you see it?
