Caroline “Um, You Know” Kennedy has withdrawn her bid to fill Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s former Senate seat. Caroline’s quest for the New York Senate seat has been plagued by questions over her experience and her reluctance to answer questions about her finances.

Her popularity among prospective voters also dwindled after a string of interviews in which Kennedy seemed vague and inarticulate, peppering her answers with “Um’s” and “You Know’s.”

The U.S. Senate seat was once filled by Caroline’s uncle, Robert Kennedy, and many accused the younger Kennedy or trying to use her famous name to get ahead, despite possibly lacking in the proper credentials to best serve that position.

Despite lack of popular support, Kennedy, according to an anonymous source cited in The New York Times, has chosen to withdraw due to “personal reasons,” specifically concerns over her uncle Senator Ted Kennedy’s poor health. Ted, as you may remember, suffered a seizure during the inaugural luncheon on Tuesday.

The New York Post, however, reports Caroline dropped her bid after learning that New York Governor David Paterson was not going to choose her for the position.

Caroline’s withdrawal leaves the race open to several others vying for the position, most notably Attorney General Andrew Cuomo.
