DJ Academy Trains Models To Work As “Shejays”

Showing true charity of the spirit, New York-based DJ EM started an academy/agency for professional models to teach them how to DJ. That agency, StaDj (a combination of the words “Star” and DJ”) is now running a “stable” of beautiful models who also know a thing or two about how to get a party going. In the ranks for hire are “DJ Teardrop,” “DJ Ladyfingers” and “DJ Lucky Star.” We can expect “DJ IWantCarbs” and “DJ Sparklepony” to follow soon.

DJ EM and his business partner PC Miller described their ideal Shejay:

“Our perfect talent will have music intelligence and abilities to follow the technique. Then we move on to looks and personality. If you are intending to create a visual spectacle, it’s important that you have a DJ who has an appeal to the crowd in her charisma and moves– able to be caught great on camera and video.”

When asked whether the agency got criticism for only hiring beautiful women, PC Miller denied that it had and then defended StaDj by saying;

There are a lot of beautiful girls that aren’t really organized. They find that on their own, they get a lot of backlash, so that’s why they come to us…one of the biggest things is that the girls feel comfortable on stage. Our number-one aspect is female empowerment.

It’s hard not to see this “female empowerment” as a creepy pimp-type organization wherein the supposedly at-risk “talent” is chosen solely for their sex-appeal, given a modicum of skills and then hired out for the night. And what about when they get their first wrinkles? Do they get relegated to breaking down the equipment at the end of the night? Or are they fed to the new models to keep them young forever? Really, this just gives us another reason not to go to big fancy clubs. We’re sure there are DJs who also happen to be phenomenally hot women, but we’d rather have it happen in that order, not the other way around.
