An earthquake that struck Costa Rica yesterday has left at least three people dead. The earthquake, which struck primarily in the capital city of San Jose, left several people without power, caused injury, road damage and structural damages. Two of the three killed happened to be sisters, ages 7 and 11, buried in a landslide triggered by the tremors in Alajuela, a town just North of San Jose. The third was a woman who died of a heart attack during the earthquake. (Not to be an asshole but… does that count as dying “because” of an earthquake?)

Says an American tourist who was staying in a San Jose hotel at the time of the earthquake:

“I was outside and all of a sudden I could see the whole building shaking. You could see the pool water moving like a tsunami.”

Many gathered to pray in public spaces after the tremors subsided. Our thoughts are with the citizens — and tourists — of Costa Rica right now.

yeah that counts as dying because of the earthquake, the woman wouldn’t have had the heartattack had she not gone through that traumatic shit
