fidel_castro_1.22.09Fidel Castro took a break from dying to comment on our new president, Barack Obama. Castro wrote a “reflection”or “LiveJournal post” on Obama, saying he found his intentions to be “noble,” but nonetheless had a few questions concerning his presidency.

Castro’s column, posted on the state-run Cuban website “Cuba Debate,” marks the first time Cuba’s former dictator has penned such a column since December 15th of last year. Castro’s period of silence had prompted many to speculate that the 82-year-old’s health was fading rapidly. His brother Raul, Cuba’s current leader, has brushed off concern that Fidel’s health is on the decline.

Writes Castro, while lying on his tummy and swinging his feet:

I expressed that personally I had not the least doubt of the honesty with which Obama, the 11th president since January 1, 1959, expressed his ideas, but in spite of his noble intentions there remained many questions to answer. [Such as] how can a wasteful and consumerist system par excellence preserve the environment?

By paying for cleaner technology and funding research on alternative fuel sources, maybe? Sillyhead!

Castro recently met with Argentine President Cristina Kirchner, who says the former dictator told her he’d followed Obama’s inauguration on television. She added, “With much passion, with much conviction, he told me he’s a sincere man, believes absolutely in everything he’s saying, he has many good ideas and a very good history.”

Aw.

Is he copying Erik Estrada’s pose?

    • God I hope so.

I like to think he’s pointing right at me, and eventually tiny little hearts will come shooting out of his finger.
