jessica_alba_12709So, we made a deal with Jessica Alba (Since she, you know. Reads Guanabee. And loves us.), promising to write about things other than her body and baby and boobies or whatever, as long as she gave us other stuff to cover. And she totally has!

You might recall Jessica receiving some flack in the press recently for apparently confusing Switzerland and Sweden whilst getting snarky with a journalist.

Well now she’s taken to MySpace to defend herself and give us cretins a history lesson. Sort of:

Jay_eh here. I wanted to share with everyone in the ibeatyou and MySpace communities my experiences at the inauguration last week, so I put together a little video.

Before I get to the video, I want to clear some things up that have been bothering me lately. I find it depressing that in the midst of perhaps the most salient time in our country’s history, individuals are taking it upon themselves to encourage negativity and stupidity. Last week, Mr. Bill O’Reilly and some really classy sites (i.e.TMZ) insinuated I was dumb by claiming Sweden was a neutral country. I appreciate the fact that he is a news anchor and that gossip sites are inundated with intelligent reporting, but seriously people…it’s so sad to me that you think the only neutral country during WWII was Switzerland. Check out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweden_during_World_War_II if you want to see what I was referring to. I appreciate the name calling and the accurate reporting. Keep it up!!

Now on to more important things…like our new President.

TMZ, for their part, offered a nice little retort:

She is absolutely correct. Sweden was a neutral country … 60 years ago.

Even though she was engaged in a debate about the current political situation in America when she advised a reporter to “Be Sweden … be neutral” — Alba is swinging back at critics, like TMZ, on her blog saying, “It’s so sad to me that you think the only neutral country during WWII was Switzerland.”

She is absolutely correct — when the Nazis were waging war on anyone who opposed Hitler’s evil rule, Sweden remained neutral and stayed out of the war. After the war, Winston Churchill referred to Sweden as “that small, coward country.”

We apologize for not considering the political climate of the world in 1942 when we suggested she may have meant, “Be Switzerland” — a country that is currently neutral.

God we cannot take this celebrity worship and constant interest in their lives and opinions! Ugh. We’re totally moving to Japan.

  1. HAHAHA. Sweden remained neutral during WW2 because Norway and Finland were being bombarded by Germany and Russia forces respectively. Sweden even conceded their railways to Germans during the war and continued to trade valuable resources, including steel. Swedish volunteers enrolled in the SS and were the first combatants in Operation Barbarossa (Germany’s first operation into mother Russia). Jessica, when it comes to history, please use other resources besides wikipedia.

I don’t mock her for confusing Sweden and Switzerland. I mock her for the dumb use of the word “salient.”
