penelope_monica_cruz_1.16.09Penelope and Monica Cruz have a new, limited edition collection together for Spanish retailer Mango. And, as with past collections from Penelope, we like it!

It’s not as on-point as some previous collections that Penelope’s done, solo, for the company, but it does manage to make runway trends a little more wearable off the runway.

The sisters’ Spring / Summer 2009 collection allows you to have your pick of several little black dresses and dainty, ruffled tops, coupled with more tailored, menswear-inspired pieces like trenches.

The trench above is one of our favorite looks. Classic and versatile, it’s the perfect coat to wear as winter transitions into Spring. Or, if you’re in a warm place like Miami or LA, it’s a nice coat to wear once you step into a movie theater with the AC set to “mausoleum.” Plus, we love those shoes.

The top pictured above is flirty and romantic, but we’re not sure we love the sleeves. On a scale of one to five, we give it a “meh.” We do, however, really like Penelope’s retro makeup look. Can anyone recommend a lipstick in that shade of pink?

What’s with the tacky Jersey hooker glove? We’re not crazy about this dress or the styling in the photos. Penelope’s boobs, however, inspire sonnets.

Penelope’s dress is cute, and Monica’s curve-hugging number looks amazing on her… But isn’t everyone tired of the bandage dress trend Hervé Léger has been assaulting us with this past year or so?

Picture with the trenchcoat straight up looks like a 70s JCPenney catalog.

i know you guys are probs not fashion writers, but the herve leger “bandaid dress” is a decades old classic style. m. leger himself is not designing the line anymore, it’s max azria now. hth.

    • True. Your point is entirely valid. But, as I see it, the design has recently come back as a fad of sorts among Hollywood. And, regardless of who is at the helm of the design house, is still known as Leger’s design. Just like a Chanel jacket is still associated with Coco Chanel, regardless of how Lagerfeld might reinterpret it.

  3. penelope and monica are looking sizzling in the black classic dress.
