Not So Gr8: Mother Of Octuplets Has Six Other Children, Lives With Parents

The woman who recently gave birth to octuplets is found to have already had six other children and lives with her parents. See, Mom and Papi? It could be worse.
The woman has asked that her name be kept confidential, but her family members have had no problem discussing her situation with reporters. Her mother, Angela Suleman, say they are happy to have eight more kids in the family. Her father, Ed, was more cryptic about the family’s future plans regarding the babies: “We have a huge house, not here. You are never going to know where it is.” Well, you know. Maybe if you and your wife stop talking about her daughter’s 14 children.
The mother’s older children are ages 7, 6, 5 and 3, plus a pair of 2-year-old twins. She is said to be “fairly young” and currently has no romantic partner.
The woman’s mother said her daughter was given the option of selectively reducing the number of embryos after it was discovered that her fertility treatments (she had the embryos implanted) had resulted in multiples. She declined because “that is a painful thing.” More painful than putting your family in debt, denying your children a well-formed parent-child relationship, sucking up the world’s resources and possibly being unable to adequately pay for food, medical care, clothing and education? Sorry. Sorry. Open mind. Keep an open mind.
Speaking of painful, only one of the babies was delivered via C-Section. Of course, stuffing eight human beings in your womb results in each one weighing the size of a guinea pig, but…. Sorry! Open mind!
The mother of the octuplets released a statement, saying:
Please know, in our own time, we will share additional details about this miraculous experience. The babies continue to grow strong everyday and make good progress. My family and I are ecstatic about all of their arrivals. Needless to say the eighth was a surprise to us all, but a blessing as well.
One of the babies is still breathing with the aid of a machine and all are being fed donated breastmilk through a tube. Open. Fucking. Mind.

That’s too many kids. 6 was already enough wasn’t it?! If I were the dad I would be openly weeping and setting up black market deals on some of those kids.
In Nazi Germany, the woman would have been given a gold medal, Americans are such fuckin’ hypocrites.
Maybe she is trying to beat the Duggar family with the18 kids.

She already beats the Duggars! They only have an average of 9 kids/person, she has 14 all to herself. WTF!!!!!! And why, if she was perfectly capable of having kids 2 years ago, did she need 8 embryos implanted now? (not even taking into account that she already had 6 kids with no second parent and apparently insufficient financial resources for them). Not that you have to be married and a bajillionaire to have kids, but really, there’s a minimum of reponsibility involved in deciding to become a parent, which clearly these people completely missed out on. I thought the Duggars were whack, but this woman takes the cake.
Completely irresponsible! Unfair to the kids! Uncaring about the physical condition and hardships that most premature babies face. And completely clueless about what it takes to be a good parent.
TBH, this thing sounds like a cult of some kind. I wouldn’t be surprised to find that the sperm donor was the grandfather.

I want to crack jokes about this but I’m just too angry on behalf of those kids. Horrible.

This fecundity would bankrupt a middle class or poor family. Therefore I have to assume the extended family is rich.
Doesn’t the doctor/hospital screen the people presenting themselves for fertility drugs to see if they’ve already achieved fertility? Or is possession of enough money to pay for the treatments all that counts when the would-be mom presents herself? Perhaps so, and, if so, that’s another evidence that they’re rich.
Greed, extremism, indifference to consequences—these are the all-American vices on display in this story.
After a century and a half of seeing the US of A consistently act like a pig in this and many other ways, I suspect the rest of the world will view with delight the fall of our empire before the greater fecundity (and greed) of the Chinese one.
…and California voted “Yes” on Prop 8? Probably some Gay Partners will end up adopting some of this brood after the bills come due. Shoulda said “no.” for more marriages without the fallout.
