Niurka Will Not Be Upstaged By Carmen Dominicci’s Allegations Of Domestic Abuse

If you looked up “classy” in the Dictionary, you’d find an image of Niurka Marcos. In an article titled “Incredible: She Suffered Domestic Abuse!,” -singer- -actress- -model- Niurka shares the details of her abusive relationship. Jealous, Carmen? The article unfolds by asserting that Niurka was abused by her ex, despite not seeming like the type of woman who would “allow herself” to be pushed around.
Niurka alleges that the first of her five husbands, Frederico Avila, wooed her by presenting himself to be a knight in shining armor, and that she married him without giving much thought to his condiderable wealth. She’s got a good, seemingly unpusharoundable heart, that Niurka. Niurka alleges that Federico, a Mexico cop (no wonder he was so wealthy!) soon grew abusive, and once even held a gun to her head. The former Tropicana dancer credits her mom with helping get her out of her abusive marriage.
We can’t help but wonder about Niurka’s motive in choosing to talk about her painful experience, detailed in her new autobiography Soy, at this particular point in time. Do you suppose Niurka is trying to help women in similar situations… or help sales of her book? Or, hey. Maybe she’s doing a bit of both.
At any rate, we don’t see many women relating to Niurka or holding her up as a serious advocate for gender equality, or as anything other than a particularly shameless self-promoter. Her interviews, the media outlets she chooses to speak to, her memoirs - they all smack of little more than sensationalism and easy publicity, and of making a serious subject little more than a sensational headline.
Kudos to her, however, for getting out of a dangerous situation.
