Beyond The Barrio: Romanian Immigrant Raped Woman To “Learn English In Prison”

The Daily Mail claims Ali Majlat, a Romanian immigrant living in Britain, raped a 21-year-old “girl” so that he could get English lessons in jail. We’re rather inclined to think he raped a 21-year-old woman because he’s a rapist.

The 35-year-old ex-con had moved to England a few months after being released from prison in his home country of Romania.

Majlat attacked the 21-year-old as she was awaiting a train, assaulting and dragging her across the platform. 

She managed to get away, briefly, but he caught her again and raped her in an underpass before stealing her phone, purse and bracelet. 

Once arrested, he told a psychologist brought in by the court that he raped the girl so that he could be sent to prison and learn English. The doctor determined he was not mentally ill, just a total asshole, but Maljat said a therapist at the Romanian prison where he was kept had declared him mentally ill.

The young woman’s rape occurred days after Maljat had gone to a maximum security prison to visit his brother. After seeing all the free educational opportunities, eligible bachelors and delicious foodstuffs prison has to offer, who would resist?

Maljat’s case has prompted a judge to call for the implementation of procedures to alert customs officials whenever criminals enter the country.
