tedkennedy11909Senator Ted Kennedy (D-Massachusetts) was rushed from Statuary Hall in the Capitol to the hospital during a Presidential inaugural luncheon with Congress this afternoon after reportedly suffering seizures. Emergency personnel wheeled the Senator off as, witnesses report, he was still convulsing. President Obama spoke in his absence wishing him the best of health. “My prayers are with him and his family,” the newly sworn in President said. “Right now, a part of me is with him. And I think that’s true of all of us.” Kennedy was present at the inauguration ceremony and appeared to be in good spirits, but has been in poor health of late, suffering from a brain tumor he was diagnosed with last summer.

UPDATE: As of 5:36 PM Eastern, the hospital reports that the Senator is doing okay.

“After testing, we believe the incident was brought on by simple fatigue,” said Dr. Edward Aulisi, chairman of neurosurgery at Washington Hospital Center, in a statement Tuesday afternoon. “Senator Kennedy is awake, talking with family and friends, and feeling well. He will remain at the Washington Hospital Center overnight for observation, and will be released in the morning.”
