Welcome To The New Guanabee
14 January 2009, 3:27 PM. By Daniel Mauser
A little over a year ago Guanabee was launched. Since we arrived on the scene we have covered the latest news and commentary that appeal to your Latino sensibilities. We have been big on content but not on features. Today we unveil to you the new build of your favorite Latino news site.
The new Guanabee boasts an improved look as well as much needed add-on’s that more accurately reflect our position as the leading Latino website for gossip, media, culture and lifestyle coverage. Some of the highlights include:
New Snazzy Logo
The new Guanabee logo, just like its predecessor, maintains a strong tie to characters and symbols commonly found in Latin America and Spain. This modified version of the Rayuela font “is inspired by the ludic atmosphere of literature by writer Julio Cortázar” and is meant to evoke a more contemporary look and feminine vibe. And it matches beautifully the editorial direction of the site: gossip, culture, media and lifestyle. The font of the site is Georgia, which is designed for clarity on a computer monitor even at small sizes, so your eyes should not get too tired.
Consistent Layout and Seamless Navigation
The new three column layout organizes the content neatly and allows for seamless navigation throughout the site; the side columns remain constant giving you quick access to our most commonly covered topics and popular stories, while the middle column displays the most current list of articles, full stories, galleries and other pages. As a nice touch, certain elements such as the login can be accessed within the same page so you don’t have to scramble to find it.
Profiles
You can now register to Guanabee and get your own profile. You can share a bit about yourself with other readers, display your name in the comments section and access tools limited only to registered users. Some of these include: voting on others’ comments and exclusive eligibility for monthly giveaways and prizes. We are working on a proprietary feature to add a picture to your profile, this feature will be available in the next days to come.
Comments and Threads
Big change here on the comments section. There are now two ways you are able to comment: you can Login to your account (you have to register to obtain your login info.) or you can contribute as a guest. Among the new features, you can reply to other’s comments and subscribe to a thread, which sends you an email whens someone has replied to one of your comments. (You have the ability to manage turn this off in case you don’t want to receive emails.)
Photo Albums
We’ve worked with pictures before but it was messy; viewing them led you to pop-ups and creating a gallery… forget it! We put a lot of thought into getting this right. Our new photo gallery houses all the photo albums we will create and zipping through each of these is a breeze. You have direct access to the three most recent photo albums on the bottom right corner of the homepage. You will also find links to photo albums in some of the stories that have the “Photos” tag.
These are just some of the new features we’ve pointed out, others you will discover on your own as you spend time on the site. We will be adding even more in the next days and months to come. That said, we are releasing in Beta. For those who are non techies, this means that the site you see today has all the features mentioned, but also includes known issues and bugs of a less serious variety that we are still working through. Your comments and feedback are greatly appreciated. You can contact us using the “Tip Your Editors” form or via email at info@guanabee.com.
We hope that you enjoy the new site. We certainly have enjoyed putting it together. Don’t forget to subscribe to our newsletter or feed.
As a side note, we want to personally thank all the Guanabee Media team for all their hard work and endurance working with the previous primitive platform. Also to the SoH, ANR, Blakester, Linehan and all of those of you who provided us with useful criticism and suggestions.

Ay, this is exciting! You’re all fancy schmancy now, Guanabee. I’m so proud of you.

Hey G-Bee,
I’m diggin’ the new set up! I am having problems making my account. Fix that ish!
Fredo
Yay! Looks good. However, the font is too small. It’s not my computer either. No problems with the site before or any other sites.
Also, “register” doesn’t work.
I do not like that the full article no longer shows in my RSS reader. I’m a lot less likely to read a post if I have to click through.
I got my registration to work. Here’s how: when you receive the registration email it gives you a username that is not the one you chose so you have to erase it when it auto fills and put in the username you chose. Then input the emailed password and proceed.
and next year you’ll announce your new look is more in line with this, right?
heston
I think it looks a little Jezebel but it’s okay.
Oh no, I hope it doesn’t turn into a Jezebel! That site is teh suxz!!1!
Ay, que skinny se pusieron.
Sorry about the temporary registration problems. It should work now. And Fredo is right, if you tried to register right away you got a userid rather than your username, so just replace the number with the username you had chosen and all should be good to login.
@Guest, I just switched the feeds back to full content rather than a summary, we’ll have to see if Daniel lets it stay that way ;-)
please keep the rss feed with the full post :) i also don’t know how long for the reader to sense the change, but as of right now, i still see the partial post.
otherwise congrats gdawgs. looks good!
I like it! Nice job.
Thanks for registering and for your feedback. It’s nice to get the support. There are a couple of kinks that we will be working through to make sure that the site works as intended. We are very excited to roll it out. If you have any specific suggestions you can send us a message using the tips form under “Tip Your Editors.” Thanks!
Great work guy’s I like the new look and the ability to register. Keep up the great work.
looks great guys!
mira, que fancy.
Hey, don’t I see you on *whisper* Gawker and Defamer?
I’ve been following your site on my RSS for the last 7 months or so, I have to admit that while I’ll probably still check every few days, the lack of pictures on the feed will deter my “Must check!” desire at work.
I’ll miss the old Guanabee, it brought a lot of joy to my day.
Guys, we have decided to publish a feed showing full content and one showing excerpts please watch for that in the next couple of days.
Congrats guys. Consider this a significant milestone of your further success to come.
Don’t people know what the term “Beta” means? And what the hell is RSS anyway? Forget it, I don’t think I want to know. I have enough trouble focusing on my job everyday as it is. I gotta admit, though, that if you had gone with Arial or Times New Roman, I might have bailed on you. J/k.
You guys are on my Fave Five. Orale.
Que suave. Me gusta.
good job guanababies
i did have a fondness for the old logo but felicidades!
I hate it … “FOR THE LATINA IN YOU” … what about the guys that have been keeping you with the site?
I preferred “SPICY COVERAGE FOR THE LATINO IN YOU” it wa more inclusive … if this is turning into a chick site then it’s off my Google Reader … which would make me sad because where else will I learn about Thalia & Paulina and all those Mexican soap stars?!
Seriously. I like Guanabee but it’s looking like Jezebel (ahem Yessebel) lite. It should be gender neutral–like the color yellow, short haircuts, the name Hayden. Or androgynous, like Walter Mercado.
I’m just saying! No me castigen!

Bye!
pues nimodo… i’ll take my spicy latino out of you and take it elsewhere.
We hear everybody’s concern but the content will remain the same. The current look reflects our editorial direction.
Your deletion from my google reader reflects your editorial direction. Adios Guanabee!
Sad to see you go. Hopefully you will change your mind.
seriously… that logo.. super gay. I guess this site has moved beyond some of us.
I actually think the logo is super straight. It’s so straight it screwed the gay out of me …
Why does the Welcome mat says “Bienvenido” if the new site is for the “Latina” in you? Shouldn’t it be “Bienvenida”? Just a thought.
I hope this means Alejandra is getting a raise. She writes the entire site!
The new look isn’t bad but honestly I liked the old one better. That “latina” bit makes my maleness feel a bit rejected. And the “Tip Your Editors” link I am looking at currently goes nowhere. I guess I can still keep reading though…
Daniel Mauser killed one of my favorite websites! How could you!?

Do you want us to report issues to the Tips email?
Sure. You can also leave any problems concerning the redesign here and we’ll see it. We check comments regularly, especially at night when drunk and keenly cognizant of the fact that we have no friends.
But, yes. You can report issues to the Tips email as well.
Oh its so chiny here! Pero, I know that’s its supposed to be more “feminine” but pink for girls is so cliche. Not everything for women needs to be pink I say. Other than that I like the new features.
I can’t get off the first page. HELP! I I hit previous and still, front page only. It’s like ground hog day but with way more Hip-spanics. Is this a MAC issue? That’s just racist. We can have a black president but not harmony between operating systems? That’s just wrong.
It’s not a Mac issue, and it’s now fixed. I’m a Mac user myself, so if anything the bugs would hit Windows users. But I didn’t say that ;-)
cheese guanabee, i leave for 2 weeks and this is what happens?
no but it looks good.
