The 28 year-old owner of a bar called Eye T in the Charlottenburg district of Berlin is on trial this week for the murder of a 16 year-old boy with whom he engaged in a drinking contest lin February of 2007. The bar owner, who is known to the press simply as Aytac G., admits to engaging in a drinking contest with the high school student known as Lucas that landed him in a coma for five weeks and ultimately killed him. Aytac fooled Lucas by serving himself water while the boy consumed 45 shots of tequila in an hour which raised his blood alcohol level to .44 percent. Also charged were an 18 year-old, a 17 year-old and a 21 year-old patron who participated in fooling the boy. They were sentenced in November to 10 days of social training. Another bartender was acquitted and Aytac began his trial today for the more serious charge of “bodily harm resulting in death.”
