Chris Brown Could Face Ten Years In Prison For “Criminal Threat” After Assaulting Rihanna
9 February 2009, 5:14 PM. By Alex Alvarez
Chris Brown could face the next decade behind bars because he’s been charged with “Criminal Threat” - which gets you nine years in prison - rather than “Domestic Abuse” - which gets you four. Suspects are typically booked for the most serious crime with which they can be charged, then it’s up to the District Attorney to decide if it sticks. Like a rash. From herpes.
Update: the lead picture on this post has been replaced.
Rihanna cancelled her Grammy performance because of the extent of her facial injuries, but she and Chris both attended Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy party. We kind of wonder when the whole “STD discussion” came into play, if that indeed happens to be true. Is that something you could see Rihanna and Chris discussing right before the Grammys?
There is also recently-released video footage of Chris Brown turning himself in to authorities:
Brown was driven to the LAPD station by attorney Mark Geragos, who has previously represented Michael Jackson, Winona Ryder and Scott Peterson. Doesn’t look too good for Chris…

The herpes thing is fishy. No pun intended. To me, it kinda seems like something his “people” made up. Although, sometimes truth is stranger than fiction so maybe she did give him the Big H. But even so, hitting her for it is not ok.
Which makes me wonder… if Chris had given her the Big H and she clocked him for it, would she be facing prison? Would they have let it slide because it was a female hitting a male?
They probably would have let her slide and she would have been heralded as a feminist icon.
But, violence is never the answer and Chris should never have hit her, if he did.
The herpes thing is just so false it’s obvious. Did you check out the NY Daily News? They were all blaming her in their gossip section. He got out of his car to chase her down and somehow she’s at fault for suggesting he was flirting too much. His PR people definitely got to them first.
I feel for her, man. I don’t think she’s as rich or free as people think. The industry owns your ass and from last I heard the girl was nearly broke, hardly earning much money. I think her career will be as damaged as his, probably worse.
Can you share the NY Daily News article?
I don’t comment on here too often, but I just had to say that the picture posted along with this story is incredibly offensive. I find it ridiculous that a site geared towards women doesn’t know how to handle such a sensitive subject in a tactful manner.
The picture was meant to highlight domestic abuse and it most certainly did not endorse violence in any way. It is meant to be provocative and show how ridiculous it is that Chris Brown would hit a woman for something like this.
If your idea of “highlighting domestic abuse” (what the hell does that even mean?) is to make light of what is obviously a horrible situation, then this site has become much worse than I thought. Next time you have to cover your ass after you’ve offended your target audience, try not to insult our intelligence by disguising your tacky and juvenile antics as an effort to “be provocative.”
You are offended, I get it. You are obviously angry about it for some reason of your own. That’s Ok you are entitled to your opinion. All I said was that the picture was not meant to offend anyone or endorse any form of aggression.
I’m glad you get that I’m offended. What you don’t get is that this potentially offends an ENTIRE group of people! Particularly, an ENTIRE group of people that this website is supposed to attract! Your assumption that I could only be offended “for some reason of my own” simply shows everyone how dense you are.
And that is all I have to say on your purported non-violence endorsing picture.
Quick Poll: is every Latino/a in this site offended by the picture in this post?
I mean, I can’t speak for every Latino, but I find it offensive.
And isn’t ONE commenter allowed to be offended if they want to be without it becoming a blog crisis?
And also, there’s no way Chris Brown will serve a sentence beyond a restraining order and some community service. Especially if this is his first time.
I also find it offensive. How would you feel if your sister or mother got beat and somebody posted a “funny” picture of her face as it might have looked after the beating. We can all imagine what Rihanna’s face might have looked like and don’t need your help. Just because she’s a celebrity doesn’t mean she’s not a person.
We have decided to replace the picture that leads this post. Many of you have voiced that the picture was offensive. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. We enjoy getting feedback from you guys, it makes the site all the better. In a situation like this, it’s best when the feedback is constructive. However, at the end of the day, this is a blog and we cover news in a way that is different –that’s why you come and visit. And we recognize that in the heat of the story it’s sometimes easy to cross over to the dark side. and we rely on you to bring us back. Domestic abuse, if this is what it was, is a huge disease in America and we don’t endorse it in any way.
A bit too soon, the black lash is due to the fact that there still is a cloud of mystery. The main issue, will we ever know the truth, what cause the argument, did Rihana provoke Chris Brown (does it matter at all) and why did he flee the scene?
i admit she doesnt make as much money as chris if she hit him i would think she would have the guts for him to hit bac but at the same time if he was raised rite which he wasnt he was raised by an abusive stepfather and he thinks its kool to beat on women but its not and hes a whore for it so fuk mr. bitchy brown…….
