Eyeball Tattoos May Be Outlawed In Oklahoma

A bill to make eyeball tattoos illegal may be passed by the Oklahoma government, causing one, or possibly two people to sob with disappointment. The trend was first spotted last year, when a Canadian man named Brave Pauly got over 40 needle injections into his eyes to turn the white parts blue. Check him out:

The bill was drafted at the urging of Oklahoma’s Academy of Opthamology, since doctors there were concerned that the procedure-i.e. stabbing a needle into the eye and then injecting it with ink-might not be safe. Oklahoma Senator Cliff Branan told reporters; “It is completely patently disgusting and crazy to do it. As a good public health policy we felt it was important to stop that trend before it goes any farther here in the state of Oklahoma.” Any body modification surgery has its risks, but the Academy argued that allowing eyeball tattoos was simply an unsound public health policy, since the procedure could easily cause blindness or partial loss of eyeball function. On a totally unrelated side note, dangling sharp gems off your eye a.k.a “eye jewelry” appears to still be legal. Oh, the vagaries of alarmist law-making.

Meanwhile, tattoo artists in Oklahoma are calling the bill frivolous, since the trend isn’t exactly spreading like wildfire. So far, only a handful of people have had the balls to go through with an eyeball tattoo, although a lot of people showed interest or positive reactions to the idea. One woman gushed about her experience watching someone else get their eyes tattooed; “It’s quite amazing. Over the last couple weeks, it’s flooded across the white and stained the eyeball perfectly.” We’ll stick with our boring old esophagus tattoo for now, thanks.
