Freida Pinto’s Ex Blames Slumdog Millionaire For Divorce

Freida Pinto’s ex-fiance (or ex-secret-husband depending which sources you choose to believe) blames Pinto’s “infatuation” with her Slumdog Millionaire co-star, Dev Patel, for the deterioration of their relationship. Ha! We told you.

Rohan Antao and Freida Pinto’s relationship took a sour turn when she began to promote her film and became increasingly well-known. The couple, who fell in love six years ago while Pinto was pursuing a BA, worked together to promote her burgeoning modeling and acting career. Once her star rose and she had no more use for her marketing exec -maybe-secret-husband, however, Pinto dumped his ass. On the telephone.

Antao, who now claims the two were engaged but not yet married, claims the people behind Slumdog insisted the two pretend to not be together seriously: “The film bosses didn’t want her to be engaged. It would affect the whole emphasis of the film, the love story. I had no say in it.”

Antao says that the strain caused by having to lie about the nature of their relationship was exacerbated by all the time Pinto was spending with 18-year-old co-star Dev Patel:

I didn’t go with her. I had my own work to do and we weren’t supposed to be seen together. She told me it was a requirement, so I had to get on with it.

But it was all too much too soon for her. She was staying in five-star hotels and being driven by chauffeurs—it was quite a change.

And she was always with Dev, doing press publicity. They certainly did a brilliant job promoting a film about a couple in love! I knew there was chemistry between them, but she said she had no feelings towards him at that time.

The frustration prompted Antao to send Patel an angry text at the Toronto Film Festival in September, asking “You do know she is engaged, don’t you?” Antao says he never got a response.

Eventually, Antao received a call from Pinto while she was off in Los Angeles promoting the movie. She told him the relationship was over. Antao says he doesn’t know whether his ex and Patel ever had a sexual relationship, but that, if he ever met him face-to-face, he would “have things to say.” Another Slumdog co-star, Anil Kapoor, says Pinto and Patel are very much a couple and were even seen shopping for jewelry together.

And here’s the thing we don’t understand: If you’re dating someone that has left a committed relationship for you, what’s to keep that person from dumping your ass when the next person comes along?
