Merman Michael Phelps Photographed Smoking From A Bong

Photographs of Michael Phelps filling his gills with bong smoke have been released, probably because he has terrible friends. Phelps has issued an apology for his “regrettable” behavior.
The photo was apparently taken this past November at a house party while Phelps was visiting the University of South Carolina. When the photo was first run in British tabloid News of the World, it was stated that they were unsure whether or not Phelps was actually smoking pot that night, but that “marijuana pipes” are usually used for such purposes. Which is true, he could have been in the process of glass blowing, or using the bong to blow fabulous bubbles.
In any case, Phelps went ahead and issued a formal apology for his actions:
I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment. I’m 23 years old and despite the successes I’ve had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public it will not happen again.
The Olympic Committee stated that they were disappointed in Phelps’ behavior. Phelps was named as the Committee’s the group’s sportsman of the year and is also among a select group of top athletes who agreed to take part in a pilot program aimed at increasing the accuracy of drug testing. So, you know. Oops.

If Michael Phelps is into smoking pipes then good for him. Just because he enjoys smoking a water pipe does not mean he should have to lie about it and talk about the “big mistake” he made. The government makes a mistake every time it enforces marijuana prohibition at the expense of America and good since. America should grow up and quit attacking its own citizens for how they decide to spend their recreational time.
