nadya_suleman_todayNadya Suleman, the woman who recently gave birth to octuplets, waddled over to the “The Today Show” this morning to talk with Ann Curry about all the criticism and media attention she’s been getting.

Nadya has recently come under fire when it was discovered that she was a single parent, living at home with her mother and father, who already had six children through fertility treatments. Her family has even hinted that her desire to have so many children may be the result of a mental illness and a dysfunctional family life.

When asked by Ann Curry why she felt people were so critical of her decision, Nadya claimed that society was unaccepting of single parents. She says the same donor is the biological father of all fourteen of her children.

Ann Curry also mentioned that, according to recently released public documents, Suleman had received $165,000 after being injured during  riot at the psychiatric facility where she once worked. The documents reveal she was suffered spinal injuries and a bout of depression before “realizing her dream of becoming a mother.” Suleman says she refuses to go on welfare and will “find a way” to financially care for her children. She’s planning to get a masters degree in counseling.

The full interview will run on Monday but, for now, here’s a snippet:

As a Board Certified Reproductive Endocrinologist ( Fertility Specialist ) at the Xpert Fertility Care of California, I always followed the guideline set by American Society of Reproductive Medicine: never put back more than 2 embryos fro a “fertile” woman under 35 year of age.
Recently, with the advance of fertility medication, we even restrict ourselves to only one embryo at a time.

I can’t speak for the circumstance behind the decision to put back so many embryos in this case.
Among colleagues, the management of this doctor is considered not a standard of care, exposing the patient to unnecessary deadly risks, and possible long term disability suffered by the children.
