Narco Wars: 5 People Dead In Reynosa Following Drug-Related Shooting

Five people were killed during a drug-related shootout in Reynosa, Mexico involving federal agents and the military. This marks the third such incident in the city within the past month.

The attack occurred near Plaza Real, west of downtown Reynosa. Four federal agents were injured during the shooting. At the time, there was also a huge protest being held near Reynosa’s two large, international bridges, but the violence appears to be unrelated.

Mexican and U.S. authorities had shut down the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge earlier that morning as protesters gathered near the point of entry into the city. The bridges were later reopened following investigation of the shooting.

Reports say  a black SUV was seen in the middle of Boulevard Hidalgo near the local H-E-B grocery store. The store had damage to its windows and blood on the premises. 

Many streets in the immediate are were blocked, causing major traffic delays from the group of protesters. The H-E-B store as well as a Home Depot at Plaza Real offered sheltering to bystanders who risked being caught in the middle of the street violence, which included machine guns and grenades.
